It has been a big week around here with Kindergarden, gymnastics, choir, dentist and doctor visits, and just the general getting in the groove.
By Thursday morning, Mary Margo was tired. She didn't want to get out of bed or go to school. I was tired too. Needless to say, we had quiet the morning just getting there. She was over it!
By Thursday afternoon, Mary Margo was still tired and we had to go to the dentist. I always give Mary Margo a run down of the day in the morning so that she has something to look forward to or, in this case, so she is prepared and to avert a melt down. I skipped this step that morning. It was already bad enough without throwing in a dentist visit.
I knew that she wouldn't be happy about the dentist when I picked her up and she did have a moment of the crazy cry. But I was prepared! I brought her birthday money along for the ride and bribed her with a trip to spend it if she was good. That made the rest of the ride peaceful and we made it to the dentist 30 min early. This didn't make our appointment 30 min early. So there we sat in the waiting room with a tired 4yr old and a restless and VERY loud 1yr old.
And then it happened....
Right smack in the middle of our crazy hectic day, Mary Margo starts praying in the waiting room. After almost a week of learning so many new things. God, in turn, used her to remind me a very simple lesson.
She was playing school with the side table in the waiting room. The only book she had was the Bible. She flipped through it and taught her make believe students her version of Jesus and God stories. Then she bowed her head and folded her hands to pray out loud for all to hear.
THANK YOU GOD FOR TODAY
THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING
PLEASE KEEP US SAFE
AMEN
There in that moment all I could think about was her sweet innocent spirit. Oh, to have just a spoonful of it! She didn't care who was around or what they would think. She just folded her hands and prayed her little prayer of thanksgiving. Over these past few days, this moment keeps coming back to me along with the verse Romans 1:16
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth.
I am also reminded that God is with us EVERYWHERE! No matter the kind of day you are having and you can call out to him whenever and where ever you are.
My prayer -
THANK YOU GOD FOR THIS DAY - it may be wild and crazy but we love it
THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING - our blessings abound us.
PLEASE KEEP US SAFE - cover us with Your protection daily
Our day got better and she did fantastic at the dentist. So good, that she got a slap bracelet. WOW! Then we went to Walmart and came home with a pink electric Barbie guitar in exchange for her birthday money.

The Afternoon of the First Day of Kindergarten
While Mary Margo was at school, I did what I said I would do. Grocery store and folding clothes. I answered many text, FB post, I blogged about the morning and I made many friends and family cry. I didn't mean to, I promise. I was overwhelmed with the love and care for my little girl and her first day of school. We are so very blessed with many good friends.
I did find myself watching the clock from 12 noon on. I could hardly stand the wait to hear about her first day of school.
12:41 - My friend Ashley text me this. She works in the schools and saw Mary Margo at lunch time. Her is what MM said to her "I am happy today because it is my first day of Kindergarten."
1:40 - Dottie and I got in the car to catch our spot in the car line. I was rather impressed with the organization of the pick up system.
2:05 - They call her name to come to the pick up line. I pull up, the door slings open and there she is! My Kindergartener. She has to crawl over Dottie to get to her seat. Of course, that caused a LOUD sister squeal and hugs and Mary Margo showing the teacher that her and Dottie matched outfits.
2:06 - In her car seat, buckling up and telling me about her day.
"Momma, I saw three of my friends I already know today. Mary McKennon, Collin, and Molly."
"Awesome, Did you make a new friend?"
"No, I will do that tomorrow."
She was a CHATTER BOX when we got home and couldn't stop hugging and holding Dottie. We talked about lunch. She ate chicken nuggets and bread and she was SO excited about the Chocolate milk option too. She told me about her journal writing and reading books. And rest time, she didn't go to sleep she just rested...not surprised! She was a big ball of energy for about an hour.
2:30 - back to the Legos. She got a box of legos this weekend for her birthday and all she wants to do is play with them.
3:00 - She ask for a lolliop and wants to watch DIYnetwork with me while I fold clothes. I finished folding clothes.
4:00 - I woke up with Mary Margo on top of me, asleep, and the lollipop was stuck to her shirt. I shimmy my way out from under her and lay her on the couch.
4:30 - Dottie tries to wake up Mary Margo by squealing and whacking in the face
5:00 - Dusty attempted to wake her for dinner.
5:15 - I picked her up off the couch, still half asleep, and sat her at the dinner table. I asked if she was ready to go to bed and she shook her head yes.
She re-energized from dinner and a short phone call to our friend, Alana Brown. She stayed up for a few hours playing outside with her new ball and bat. She played her guitar with Dusty. We had a little dance party with Dottie. Then it was time to wind it on down and take it to the bed.
She liked her first day so well that she is ready to go back tomorrow. Hopefully it will go just as smooth.
I couldn't tell that she really missed Mary Margo. She did let Mary Margo hug on her a little more than normal when she got home. All in all, I think she enjoyed some time to herself.

Several people asked what Dottie did today?
She did what Dottie does best....as long as her feet are off the ground and there is something in her mouth, no matter what it is... she is happy!

Morning of the First Day of Kindergarten
5:00am - dusty gets up for a run. I am awake. Laid there for an hour thinking about the day. Praying for the day, the kids, the teachers, the Mommas.
6:00am - alarm rings and I am off to the coffee pot.
Can't help but sing The Jackson 5
Reading and writing arithmetic
Are the branches of the learning tree
A B C, easy as one, two, three
Are simple as do re mi
A B C, one, two, three, baby, you and me girl
6:30 - it took a few extra shakes but Mary Margo woke up and was surprisingly pleasant. We tip toed around the hallway so we didn't wake Dottie.
6:45am - dressed, hair brushed, shoes on, breakfast on the table - "I'm ready to go to Kindergarten, NOW!"
7:00am - Convo with Mary Margo over breakfast
"You know what I am going to do today while you are at school? I am going to go to the grocery store, and fold clothes."
Mary Margo's response, "Or you could watch a movie."
7:15am - our Estimated Time of Departure
7:17am - building a LEGO airplane tower so it can be in her picture with her
7:18am - pose for picture - drop the airplane tower - LEGO's EVERYWHERE!
7:20am - Crisis contained, picture taken, to the car we go.
7:28am - waiting in the long car line watching the walkers beat us to the door. Mary Margo from the back seat, "Momma, we should have walked." She is right, we should have.
7:45am - In the Yellow Pod, backpack put away, big hug, kiss and our goodbye. She is in her seat READY TO GO!
8:00am - Back in the car driving home....alone with glassy eyes....And just like that it is done, My first little baby girl is in Kindergarten. (and with the typing of those words the tears start falling...)
IT IS GOING TO BE A GREAT DAY!!! AND A GREAT SCHOOL YEAR!!!

Deep in the Heart of Texas
![]() |
| Mary Margo took this picture from the plane window then turned to me and asked Can we see God from up here? |
The flight went just as we had so perfectly planned it. We gave Dottie a bottle at take off and she went right to sleep. She slept for an hour or so and when she woke up she was content with sitting there watching her surroundings.
Mary Margo handled the flight just as we expected too. She was so excited about the whole thing that her little brain was in overdrive. She wanted to know what everything was and she wanted to eat every bit of the enormous amount of snacks and candy in her backpack. Then I let her get a Dr. Pepper from the flight attendant. She wanted a snack from her too. My response to that...."Honey you were born too late to get snacks from the flight attendant. They don't do that anymore. Sorry. Here have another lollipop and enjoy that coke."
Aunt Mandy is so cool because she has a POOL! We spent much of our free time swimming and diving and floating in the pool.

| We taught Mary Margo how to play cards instead of playing the Ipad. |
LEGOLAND
We had to do the Texas cowboy thing for our little cowgirl, Mary Margo. We took her downtown Fort Worth to the Stockyards. She dressed the part with her hat and boots.

Kitchen Explosion
Today we had a little kitchen "lab" that turned into an explosion of fun, oldies music, dancing, and of course, an explosion of SALSA!
I am going to try my best to paint this picture with my words. We were having WAY too much fun to stop and find the camera and take pictures of it!
It started something like this
"Hey Mary Margo, you want to help me make salsa?"
"YEAHHHHHH, that will be lots of fun."
And lots of fun it was....
we chopped onions and Mary Margo informed me that they will make you cry. When I asked her who told her that (assuming it was Nana) she replied Caillou. It's always reassuring that the TV is teaching my children useful knowledge.
We dropped the tomatoes in the food processor and on the counter and back in the processor until we dropped too many in the processor and it started leaking all over the counter.
Hmmm. what to do now?
Move the salsa to the blender. More room in there and a bigger mess to move than I thought .....so that equals more tomato sauce on the counter....
we added all the other ingredients without any more mishaps.
taste test - all is GOOD!
On to the cleaning of the kitchen -
Mary Margo wanted to wash the dishes. I said "SURE! Why not?"
So she rinsed all the dishes in the sink with LOTS of water while I unloaded and loaded the dishwasher.
This task called for some music.
Which turned this task into a DANCE PARTY
Who's that you hear? Chubby Checker....oh yeah....let's do the TWIST!!!! Then a little JAMES BROWN - WHHHAAAA I feel good! oh and who's hips can stay still when ELVIS is singing?
Mommy was doing the twist, Dottie was bouncing up and down trying to do the twist, Mary Margo was giggling and twisting all while rinsing the dishes, her shirt, the cabinets and the floor. Even Dusty did a little twisting jig on his way out the door for a run.
pandora.com - Summer Oldies Station - I HIGHLY recommend this station to step up any mundane task.....
Once all the dishes were done, the counters wiped off, Mary Margo's wet clothes changed, we slowed it down a bit, ate lunch and Dottie took a nap. All that twisting and climbing, makes a little girl tired.
Oh yes, Dottie climbing. I almost forgot to mention. While we were making all that commotion. Dottie was standing in her high chair and attempting to climb out of it. I finally took her out and put her on the floor to crawl around and what does she do? Climbs from the floor, to the chair, then to the table top of Mary Margo's little table in our kitchen. Then as soon as Mary Margo got out of the chair at the sink, Dottie was in it trying to reach the sink. Lord, please help me keep these little feet on the ground.
